This week's theme is Community Helpers.
On Monday we went for a walk through the church and identified different jobs people do such as receptionist, secretary, Pastor, "office worker" & Custodians.
Tuesday was exciting because the Fire Department came to visit. The kids loved seeing the ladder on the truck extend 75 feet into the air. The firefighters, 2 men and 2 women, showed us all kinds of tools they use, like axes, fans, hammers and pry tools. They talked to the kids about fire safety, demonstrating Stop, Drop & Roll. They even assigned homework, asking the children to make a fire safety plan with mom and dad. The highlights were watching Ms. Patsy get geared up in all the firefighter gear and getting to walk through an actual fire truck!!!
Wednesday we talked about other types of community helpers like teachers, nurses & farmers.
Today, Thursday, the Police came out and taught the children a little about what they do. Jordan's dad, his partner and a couple other gentlemen came and were great with the kids. The children who wanted to got to dress up in the vest, helmet, etc. They were so cute. Then right in the middle of the presentation the police got a call on the dispatch radio saying a home was being burglarized. The policemen grabbed their gear, jumped into the 2 squad cars and 1 undercover car and rushed off, lights flashing and sirens sounding. After arresting the "bad guys" the 2 officers driving the squad cars returned and allowed all the kids to climb into the driver's seat and flash the lights and sound the sirens. They also gave each child a special coloring book.
Mr. Geno the landscaper took some time to show the kids some squirrels & an iguana while he was cutting the hedges. He also taught the kids a little about the types of trees on our propriety at school
